Recently working with the Senior Leadership Team SLT) of a private enterprise undergoing a significant transformation. The question was asked to the SLT; “As a team, how transformational are you?”

Now the answer of ‘yes’ or ‘no’ was really irrelevant, albeit what was of interest was the varying levels of uncertainty that revealed itself. As research suggests over 88% of businesses are undertaking transformation in some form. So my question was; “how do we create leaders who paint an inspiring picture, vision of the future that people will follow and live by?”

For me the answer is Team Profiling…

In this situation the real value of conducting a Team Profiling exercise was particularly useful at two levels: individual and team. It aided firstly to better understand the individual them self, their characteristics /style and also and more importantly the team as a collective.

The process involved each individual being assessed across three dimensions (Strengths, Decision Styles, Blended 360) mapped against the ‘whole Team’ characteristics that created a detailed profile. This served well as it helped the team to better understand themselves as individuals, but also the wider SLT’s, strengths, styles and default behaviours.

Armed with this insight the team was better placed to understand how to become more ‘transformational’ in nature… not only did this serve them well as a team, but also it served them well as ‘the leaders of transformation’ – which I suggest is a great starting placein any business where there is a strong appetite to transform into something new or better version…

A great case study…
